For the 2nd Grade Fall Expedition, classes made books about migratory birds. The books were created part of our participation in the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center’s “Bridging the Americas” program.
The birds featured in our books live in our region in the summer, and then migrate to Central America countries in winter. Our books will be sent to partner classes on Ometepe Island in Nicaragua, and those classes will write back to us in the spring. The program also builds awareness of the threats facing birds, and unites children across the Americas with the common goal of helping take care of our “feathered friends.”
